Barbershop Chorus

Welcome to the Lake Geneva Country Gentlemen Barbershop Chorus site. We welcome you to participate with us in our hobby by joining us to sing or attend one of our events.

We are a group of men from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, from all vocations, that enjoy singing. If you like to sing, we invite you to join us. The only thing that is required is that you be able to carry a tune and be willing to learn. We can teach you the rest.

We sing  music in the barbershop style. 

Barbershop is an original American Art Form of four-part vocal music sung a cappella, meaning without instrumental accompaniment.

The four parts are: Lead (usually the melody), Tenor (harmony above the melody), Baritone (harmony just below the melody) and Bass (the rich bottom harmony).

What makes Barbershop unique is that it is “close harmony” meaning the notes sung by the four parts, unlike traditional choral music, are placed very close together. This is what creates the power and“ringing” effect of the chords.
